Story of smrunfrom veterans / seniors to swiss masters runningOn 1 July 1973, 26 runners and 1 runner gathered in the Hirschen restaurant in Kaisten AG to found the Laufvereinigung Schweizer Veteranen (LVSV). 10 years later, the term "veteran" was already getting a bit old, the club was renamed "senior running club Switzerland". The term "senior" has recently become less and less - especially the 35- to 45-year-olds - identify, especially since "senior" practically only concerned organizations and events over 60-year-olds. Therefore, a change of name was decided at the Extraordinary General Meeting in November 2007. They agreed on the new, contemporary name swiss masters running (smrun) based on the name of the national association (swiss athletics).swiss masters running is an independent, swiss-organized association with over 1,200 members, making it Switzerlands largest running club.As a member of swiss athletics, it is up to smrun to safeguard the interests of the 35+ runners in Switzerland. The main task of the association has always been to enforce age-appropriate categories in running events. It is scarcely a generation ago, when there were only two age groups even with large running events: those of the active ones (20-35) and those of the seniors (starting from 35). There was no talk of age grades at that time. Today the categories go to M / W60 at most running events, with the more advanced ones even the M / W70. The development continues, because the runners in the older categories are getting more and more numerous. This shows that due to age-appropriate categories, the interest in running in the running competitions persists into old age. Swiss championships on the road must offer categories from 35 to M / W75 (every 5 years). If there are fewer than five classified per category, they may be assigned to the next younger category. In-house, smrun leads the categories to M / W80.For many members of smrun, the annual championship is the most important event in the club year. In each case, 18 runs from the entire Swiss offer for the annual championship are selected. The best 6 results will be scored. The awards and prizes will be announced at the Annual General Meeting. During the year, the results appear on the Internet at www.smrun.ch and in the journal, which appears four times. Other activities include travel abroad to European and World Championships Masters or other attractive running events. A running weekend and the jogging weeks in Mallorca are also part of the annual program. The regional "humps" give members the opportunity to meet at regular intervals to cultivate camaraderie.Runners, walkers and walkers aged 35+ can become members of swiss masters running. The annual fee for individual members is 50, for couples living in the same household, 80 francs.
